2011 Summer Fellowship
The Center and the Colony offers Summer Fellowships for fiction, nonfiction and poetry writers beginning July 5, 2011 through August 1, 2011. During the Fellowship month, the mentoring faculty will be headed by three highly regarded writers; Greg Curtis, James Magnuson and Dean Young, each of whom will be in residence during the month.
The Colony’s fellowships are designed to facilitate a balance between a focus on individual work and a forum for discussion among emerging writers. In the evenings, occasional readings and presentations will allow attendees to become acquainted with and inspired by the work of other Fellows. Friendships established among writers in-residence often lead to collaborations and connections beyond the Colony.
The Mailer Fellows will meet at the Mailer home, two times a week to read and discuss their work. In addition distinguished writers, such as Gay Talese, Da Chen, Sonia Sanchez and Don DeLillo, will from time to time, visit the Mailer home to share their professional experiences with the Fellows.
Seven applicants in fiction and nonfiction and seven applicants in poetry, based on merit, will be chosen for this in-residence program. Each successful Fellow's award will cover full tuition and condo housing for the entire period of residency. Each condo will have private bedrooms, full kitchens, living rooms / writing space, internet, other resources for writing, and a bicycle for local transport. No funds are provided for food and travel to and from Provincetown.
Theese Fellowship programs are made available to the Colony through its association with the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin.
